Found right here in Bucca, NSW, this petrified wood specimen has been hand-polished on one face to a glassy shine, revealing rich growth-ring banding in deep browns through to near-black — the result of silica slowly replacing the original timber, cell by cell, over millions of years. The reverse is left in its natural, unpolished state so you can see the texture and grain just as it was found.
Measuring approximately 6cm at its longest point, it's a lovely size for a shelf, windowsill, or as a gift for anyone drawn to fossils and natural history.
